The Fledgling — A rather small guardian has taken up position above the family portrait.

An ornate Gothic tabletop frame crowned by a wide-eyed bat fledgling peering over the upper rail. Twin pointed finials, slender pillars, climbing vine relief and curling ornament give it the formality of an old portrait surround, although its newest resident prevents it from becoming too respectable.

The open central aperture provides space for your own photograph or small artwork. The frame stands naturally on its wide stepped base without an easel leg. No glass, backing board, photograph or retaining clips are supplied.

3D printed in PLA in our Dublin workshop, the sculpted surfaces reveal the fledgling’s large ears, outstretched wings and tiny paws alongside the frame’s layered mouldings and scrolling details. Fine layer texture may remain visible as a natural part of the printing process.

Finish options

• Matte Black — our standard finish. Deep matte PLA that holds shadow and shows every sculpted edge.
• Antique Silver — hand-painted and dry-brushed by us in the workshop so the raised detail lifts while the recesses remain dark. Each one is finished individually, so slight variation is natural.
• Antique Bronze — hand-painted and dry-brushed by us in the workshop, adding warm bronze colour to the raised edges while retaining the dark matte-black base beneath.
• Other (message me) — the same hand-painted finish in colours of your choosing, for the same price. Send us a message before you order and tell us what you have in mind, and we will say honestly whether we can do it justice.

Printed, finished and packed by the two of us in Dublin, then dispatched from Ireland.

Matte Black frames are normally dispatched within 1–3 working days. Hand-painted finishes take 3–5 working days, allowing the paint and protective finish time to cure properly between coats.

Product safety and care

• Decorative item for indoor use only.
• Not a toy. Keep away from young children.
• Keep away from excessive heat, open flames and prolonged direct sunlight; PLA can soften at high temperatures.
• Clean gently with a soft, dry cloth.
• Avoid water, abrasive cleaners and solvents, particularly on hand-painted finishes.
• Handle the projecting ears, wings and pointed finials with care.
• Materials: PLA. Hand-painted finishes also use acrylic paint and matt varnish.
• Minor layer lines and small variations in colour or finish are normal characteristics of the production process.

Every piece is checked before it is packed. If your frame arrives damaged or simply is not what you were hoping for, please send us a message. We are a two-person workshop and would far rather hear from you and have the opportunity to put it right.
