The Wyrm's Perch — Gothic Dragon Shelf, Floating Crystal & Candle Shelf, Hand-Painted

The Wyrm’s Perch has taken up watch on the Archive wall!

This sculptural gothic dragon wall shelf combines a projecting dragon head, layered horns and scales with elaborate baroque scrollwork beneath a broad display ledge. From the front it forms an ornate architectural statement; from the side, the projecting dragon head gives the piece considerably more depth and presence than a flat wall plaque.

It comes in two sizes — the original Standard, and a Large that is around a fifth bigger in every direction, with a noticeably deeper ledge.

Our default finish is matte black, allowing the deep carving, shadows and sculptural detail to do most of the work.

For a little more relic-like character, choose the optional Bronze & Silver Dry-Brushed Finish. The piece remains predominantly dark, with restrained bronze dry-brushing across much of the raised ornament, silver highlighting on the horns and chest plates, and a small number of selected silver accents elsewhere. The effect is deliberately subtle rather than fully metallic.

Each dry-brushed piece is finished by hand, so the placement and intensity of the highlights may vary slightly from piece to piece.

• Standard — 18.8 cm wide and 23.5 cm tall, with a clear flat shelf area of approx. 113 mm x 64 mm. The original, and the one in most of the photographs.
• Large — 23 cm wide and 28.8 cm tall, with a clear flat shelf area of approx. 138 mm x 79 mm. The same carving throughout, simply bigger: more presence on the wall, and enough ledge for taller candles or a larger crystal.

• Clear flat shelf area: approx. 138 mm x 79 mm (5.4 x 3.1 in)

The carving is ornate and irregular, so every measurement is approximate. On both sizes the ledge is deepest in the middle and sweeps back towards the ends, so the clear rectangle above is what you can actually stand something on rather than the full width of the ledge.

A note on the Large

The Large is taller than our printer can manage in one piece, so it comes off the plate in two parts and is joined and finished by hand here before it's packed. The join runs through the sculpted detail rather than across a flat surface. It's a hand-made object and we would far rather tell you the join is there than have you find it.

Finish options

• Matte Black — our standard finish. Deep matte PLA that holds shadow and shows every sculpted edge.
• Bronze & Silver — hand-painted, drybrushed by us in the workshop so the raised detail lifts and the recesses stay dark. Each one is done individually, so no two are ever quite the same.
• Other (message me) — the same hand-painted finish in colours of your choosing, for the same price. Send us a message before you order and tell us what you have in mind, and we will say honestly whether we can do it justice.

Made and posted in Ireland

Printed, finished and packed by the two of us in Dublin, and posted from Ireland, so EU orders arrive without customs charges or import delays. Standard pieces in matte black go out in 1-3 working days; hand-painted ones take 3-5, because the paint needs time to dry properly between coats.

The Large size prints in two parts and has to be joined and left to cure; processing for this version is 3-5 days.

Product safety

• Decorative item for indoor use only.
• Designed for light display items only. Please don't overload it.
• Not intended as a structural shelf or for heavy objects.
• Mount securely using fixings suited to your wall type. Adult installation recommended.
• The Large is made in two parts and joined by hand. Handle it by the body rather than by the ledge.
• Not a toy. Keep away from young children.
• Keep away from excessive heat, open flames and prolonged direct sunlight, PLA can soften at high temperatures.
• Clean gently with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid abrasive cleaners and solvents, especially on a hand-painted finish.
• Handle fine projecting details with care.
• Materials: PLA. Hand-painted finishes also use acrylic paint and matt varnish.
• Due to the nature of 3D printing, minor layer lines and small variations in finish are normal and form part of the piece's character.

Every piece gets checked before it's packed. If something turns up damaged, or just isn't what you were hoping for, please send us a message — we're a two-person workshop and we would far rather hear from you and put it right.
